I have always been obsessed...
NAY! POSSESSED by Star Wars. So, in honor of my love for the original Star
Wars films, "Battle for the Galaxy" is my interpretation of George Lucas'
earliest drafts for "Star Wars." It certainly would've been interesting to
have seen what it would've been like if Lucas had stayed with these
concepts.... Now, before you go on, let me say that I didn't want to make the scripts exactly like the movies, mainly because Lucas uses many of the elements and ideas from these scripts for the films he eventually made. So, not only have I changed the title to this series, I have changed names of characters. I didn't want readers to be continually distracted by a character whose name is "Han Solo" or "Luke Skywalker," or "Darth Vader." So, instead, I picked out names which Lucas had used in his second draft or third draft, names which were alternate names for the characters anyway. A couple character names I've had to combine since I had no choice, and there are one or two character names I had to come up with entirely on my own. However, I challenge you to determine which characters were originally "Han Solo," or "Luke Skywalker," or "Darth Vader." I also switched names of any planets which are mentioned or used in the real Star Wars films, but for the most part, I did very little of that as Lucas had some interesting alternatives. There were rare circumstances were I had to create a completely new name for a character or race. Also, I did some editing and artistic interpretation. I eliminated the characters of Princess Zara's little brothers. Not only do I think it was weird what they did to the boys in the original scripts, but ultimately, they really add NOTHING to the story at all. There is no need for them. The subplot in the story about the vials containing all of the DNA of the great scientists is practically forgotten by the end of the script. So I will give it more creedence. I think you'll like what becomes of these items by the end of the story. I trimmed some dialogue. Some of it is repetitive. I even altered some dialogue so it'd flow better, and even added some in order to get a better transition. The changes would hardly be noticeable from the original script. Finally, I tried to put a different look to the "universe" of machinery, clothing, weapons, etc. The "death-star-like" weapon in this story will look much different than the one on screen, but it will seem familiar at the same time. I will note other changes as the story progresses. The one thing I think I could not change were the Lightsabers. Love those things. They stay. Although, I probably could've done them different. Oh well. Too late now. Oh, and another interesting thing is the droids. They have been re-envisioned, though, and I relied a little more on the literal descriptions of them in the manuscript. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my interpretation. All of the chapters aren't done yet, so I'll keep putting them up as I have time to work on them.
